Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 just made its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional physical horror, but inside Together resides a profound examination about our choices in loving each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the actors bring a special spark to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim move from the metropolis to the countryside for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in bits of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions a decade in. At their core, they still love one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your other half and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu at present.
